Javier is a partner in the McKinsey office in Santiago, an affiliated leader of Spanish Latin America for the McKinsey Health Institute (MHI), and leads the Healthcare practice in Latin America. He works with companies across the healthcare value chain, including insurers, providers, retail pharmacies, and pharmaceutical companies.
In recent years, Javier has helped his clients evaluate and integrate acquisitions (M&A), incorporate technology into their operations (e.g., using generative AI), launch new digital businesses (health technology companies), build ecosystems, and adopt risk-based models, among others.
In his work with the McKinsey Health Institute, Javier has led a cross-sector effort to bring mental health task sharing to several provinces in Santiago, where strong outcomes are serving as a replicable model and reference point for other cities worldwide.
Some examples of recent work include:
- Helping an Investment Family Office develop a new regional pharmaceutical distribution business through M&As and the creation of new companies.
- Leading the digital transformation in a hospital network owned by an Investment Fund, which improved its financial and clinical outcomes, and the experience of patients and doctors.
- Assisting in the purchase and subsequent transformation of a retail pharmacy business for a PE fund.
- Designing and launching new insurance products for a multiline insurer.
- Leading Healthy Santiago, a cross-sector effort to drive better mental health outcomes for young people and older adults
