Mingyu is a senior partner and the managing partner of McKinsey’s Beijing office. He leads McKinsey’s Automotive & Assembly Practice in Greater China, where he is at the forefront of one of the world’s most dynamic and innovative automotive markets.

Mingyu supports leading automakers, dealer groups, suppliers, and other ecosystem players, driving advancements in electrification, autonomous driving, and other future technologies. He also incubates mobility service start-ups, builds shared car businesses, and designs and implements transformations in China. His work is pivotal in shaping the future of mobility in China and beyond. In addition, he co-authors McKinsey’s annual China Auto Consumer Insights report series, providing insights on the latest developments and future paths of the Chinese market.

Mingyu is an expert in corporate performance transformation, helping clients improve both revenue and profitability. He is also the leader of McKinsey’s family-owned business work in China, where he is dedicated to helping family-owned businesses build sustainable and long-lasting success.

Mingyu’s extensive international experience—spanning three continents, including five years in Europe based in Germany and a pivotal role in co-founding McKinsey’s Vancouver office in North America—uniquely positions him to offer strategic insights and a global perspective. His expertise enables him to navigate the complexities of the global market and the dynamics of globalization for Chinese companies, while also helping multinational corporations achieve their objectives in the Chinese market. Before joining McKinsey, he spent three years at Microsoft, working in its global technology center and China office.

Mingyu holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and communication from Xi'an Jiaotong University and a master’s degree in the same field from the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden.
