Based in Milan, Lorenzo is global co-leader of McKinsey’s Electric Power & Natural Gas Practice and leads the Practice in Europe. He has been based in McKinsey offices in Italy, Belgium, and Japan and has worked with clients across all continents for more than 20 years.
Lorenzo advises private and public sector organizations on strategic, organizational, and operational topics, supporting large-scale transformation programs linked to the energy transition, industrial competitiveness, and resilience.
He works across the entire energy value chain, advising utilities, grid operators, renewable developers, equipment manufacturers, investors, and public institutions on topics ranging from growth strategy and operational performance to decarbonization and energy system transformation.
Examples of Lorenzo’s recent work include the following:
- defining an energy transition strategy, including operating model evolution
- reviewing risk management models, to address greater market volatility
- developing operational excellence programs enabled by digital technologies and advanced analytics in the areas of procurement, asset management, capital excellence execution, and field operations
- creating new companies operating across the energy transition value chain, for example, in flexible services and supply-and-demand aggregation for renewable energy
- conducting preacquisition due diligence in the renewable energy, electricity, and gas distribution sectors, followed by post-merger integration activities
- setting up energy models based on the study of the long-term evolution of supply and demand, for a number of European and Asian countries
- assessing the possible key action areas to put Europe’s energy transition on a more orderly path
