Ferran is the trusted advisor to numerous clients in the mining, electricity, chemicals, and private equity sectors. He leads the Global Energy & Materials practice for Latin America and specializes in the development of digital and analytical skills with the purpose of improving productivity.

Since joining McKinsey in 2006, Ferran has honed his expertise in operations and machine learning while advising leading global companies. He has led numerous operations-improvement projects across Europe and North and South America, helping companies achieve top-notch operations.

In particular, he helps executives with throughput increase, yield improvement, operational-costs reduction, and purchasing and logistics optimization. He helps complex, large companies achieve success by applying rigor and advanced analytics to remove bottlenecks.

Examples of his work include the following:

  • Using machine learning to improve availability, maintenance, throughput, and yield for a global specialty-chemicals and mining company, resulting in increased availability and reduced maintenance costs.
  • Creating a company-wide lean-management program for a global mining company, resulting in safety improvements production increase while reducing costs.
  • Conducting a six-week cost-savings and throughput diagnostic for a mining company.
  • Generating cost savings in general and operational services for a mining company during the first wave of a purchasing transformation.
  • Using advanced analytics to optimize maintenance strategies in a North American open-pit-mine mobile fleet.

Ferran has shared insights from his pioneering operational-transformation work in numerous McKinsey publications. A distinguished speaker at industry conferences, he covers cutting-edge topics in advanced analytics, productivity improvement, and operational transformation.

Before joining McKinsey, Ferran held several positions at General Electric in France, Germany, Spain, and the United States. He also led the global advanced-manufacturing engineering division at GE Wind Energy. Ferran is a Six Sigma Black Belt.
